Which epoxy sheet has better high temperature resistance?
Epoxy sheet is a composite material made of epoxy resin bonded, heated and pressed. It has excellent insulation, mechanical strength and chemical resistance. Epoxy sheet is usually made of multi-layer fiber glass cloth impregnated with epoxy resin after lamination and has high mechanical and dielectric properties, good heat and moisture resistance, and good machinability. It contains active epoxy groups, which can be crosslinked with a variety of curing agents to form an insoluble and non-melting three-way network structure of polymers. The epoxy sheet has high mechanical properties in the medium temperature environment, stable electrical properties in the high temperature environment, and has good moisture resistance and heat resistance.
The high temperature resistance of epoxy sheet depends first on its material and manufacturing process. Ordinary epoxy sheets are usually composed of fiber glass cloth and epoxy resin, and their high temperature resistance range is roughly between 100°C and 130°C. However, the high temperature resistance of epoxy sheets manufactured through special processes or added high temperature resistant materials can be significantly improved. For example, some special types of epoxy sheets (such as G10, G11, etc.) are processed with special processes and can work stably at higher temperatures.
Epoxy sheets with better high temperature resistance
FR-4 epoxy sheet is a high-performance insulation material with excellent temperature resistance and electrical properties. Its maximum allowable temperature range ranges from 105°C to 240°C. At high temperatures, FR-4 epoxy sheet can still maintain good mechanical strength and electrical insulation properties, so it is widely used in electrical, electronic and communication fields. However, it should be noted that FR-4 epoxy sheet tends to become hard and less flexible when heated, so the size and shape of the sheet need to be considered during design.
3240 epoxy sheet is an insulation material with excellent electrical and mechanical properties. It can withstand continuous operating temperatures of up to 150°C, and can even withstand higher temperatures for a short period of time. This makes 3240 epoxy sheet perform well in applications in high temperature environments such as peripheral components of automotive engines and linings of industrial kilns.
3. Special type epoxy sheet
In addition to conventional epoxy sheets, there are some specific types of epoxy sheets on the market, such as G10 and G11, which also have excellent high temperature resistance. These types of epoxy sheets are processed by special processes and can work stably at higher temperatures, further broadening the application range of epoxy sheets in high temperature environments.
Different types of epoxy sheets have different thermal stability. And we should select the appropriate sheet according to the specific application scenario. For electronic equipment in high temperature environments, you can choose epoxy sheet models suitable for high temperature environment applications, such as FR-4 epoxy sheet, 3240 epoxy sheet, etc.
